Overview
ECI Client software aims to provide a secure
facility for ATO clients to receive, complete and return documents
electronically via the Internet. The sections below describe some
of the main features of the ECI Client software.
Acquiring and Installing the ECI Client Software
You can acquire the ECI Client software from the Online Services Setup CD or the ATO
website. The CD ROM is the most efficient method of installing the
ECI Client software on your computer system. To obtain a CD please
send an email (quoting your name and postal address) to the ECI
Business Team at trpesd@ato.gov.au
The web based version can be downloaded here.
In order to use the ECI Client software
to send and receive documents electronically, you also need to obtain a AUSkey. You then
need to install your AUSkey on your computer and protect it
with a password.
Collecting your documents
When you are ready to deal electronically
with the ATO, you can collect documents using the ECI Client software. The ATO will automatically
generate your documents either monthly or quarterly depending on
your reporting options or business turnover. The ATO will also send
you an e-mail to let you know when your documents are available
to be collected.
You need your password to activate the electronic
credential to collect your documents. If there is more than one
document to collect, the system will allow you to download them
in one action.
Completing your documents
Once downloaded, you can work on your documents while your Internet connection is closed. An open Internet
connection is only required while collecting or sending documents.
This allows you to complete your documents
at your own pace.
You can save your documents at any stage
and resume working at a later time. All totals and sub-totals will
be calculated automatically for you. You can check that all your
information is correct before you send your document(s) to the ATO.
The ECI Client software provides you with
the option to send either a selected document or all documents to
the ATO at the same time.
Internet
Security
The ECI application encrypts all documents before
sending them across the Internet. This applies both when you collect
documents from the ATO and when you send documents to the ATO.
ECI Security over the Internet is provided
by Public Key Technology. This ensures non-repudiation, authenticity,
and the privacy of your information.
Receipt Numbers
A receipt
number will be issued electronically for each document sent
to the ATO. A copy of the document will be saved in the Sent Items
tray of the Business menu together with the receipt details, visible
on the front page of the document.
